How to Check a Vape Product Against Your State's Directory (Before You Order)
In a directory state, "my supplier sells it" proves nothing. The list is the law, and the check takes five minutes per product — once, before the order, instead of during an inspection.
- Pull the live directory, not a screenshot of it. Directories update — Pennsylvania's is refreshed monthly. Use the attorney general's or revenue department's current list (your state page names the office).
- Match the exact product, not the brand. A listed device does not clear its unlisted flavors or sizes. Directory entries are product-specific: name, form, and nicotine strength as printed.
- Check the manufacturer, too. Pennsylvania launched with 159 products from just 6 manufacturers. If the maker is not in the game at all, no SKU of theirs is coming to your shelf legally.
- Date the evidence. Save or print the directory page showing the product, with the date. File it with the purchase invoice. If the product is later delisted, that paper is your good-faith record.
- Re-check on a rhythm. Products fall off directories as FDA applications resolve. Monthly in Pennsylvania's world; quarterly anywhere else — and always before a reorder of a slow mover.
The Pennsylvania scale of the thing
When Pennsylvania's ENDS Directory started enforcement on October 19, 2026, the entire legal vape shelf for the state was 159 products. Fines run $500, then $750–$1,000, then $1,000–$1,500, per product per day, with seizure and destruction at the retailer's expense. Against that arithmetic, five minutes per SKU is the cheapest labor in your shop. The kit's stocking starter list names the manufacturers who recur across state directories, so your first check starts from a short list instead of the whole internet.
